| Typical uses | Windows and doors, decorative profiles, frames, enclosures and complex profiles with thin walls. | The alloy for aluminium windows and doors: windows, doors, façades, railings, furniture and architectural profiles. | Light structures, demanding tubes and hollow profiles, rails, vehicle bodies, transport and ladders. | Structural and machined parts, marine, bicycles, brackets, flanges and machine components. | The strongest of the 6000 series: structures, bridges, cranes, scaffolding, trailers and highly stressed parts. | Aerospace, moulds, high-performance mechanical and sports parts. It is extruded in bars and simple profiles. |
Properties in T6 temper, minimums from the EN 755-2 standard for thin-walled profiles; they vary with thickness and shape. Approximate Brinell hardness. The 1 to 5 ratings compare these alloys with each other.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between 6063 and 6061 aluminium?
6063 extrudes more easily, allows thin walls and complex shapes and has the best finish for anodising: it is the alloy for aluminium windows and doors (minimum strength in T6: 215 MPa). 6061 is stronger (260 MPa in T6) and machines better, which is why it is used for structural and machined parts.
Which aluminium alloy is used for windows and doors?
6063 and 6060, in T5 or T6 temper, for their extrudability and their finish.
What is the strongest aluminium alloy?
Among extrusion alloys, 7075-T6, with a minimum strength of 540 MPa; but it cannot be fusion welded and is only extruded in simple shapes. Within the 6000 series, the strongest is 6082.
