Aluminium hardness converter

Convert between Brinell, Vickers and Rockwell with the table in the ASTM E140 standard that is specific to aluminium. Steel tables are not valid for aluminium.

Approximate conversions from ASTM E140, Table 9, valid only for wrought aluminium products (extruded and rolled); intermediate values are interpolated. A conversion never replaces measuring on the scale the specification calls for.

What hardness does your part need?

We help you specify the alloy, temper and hardness for the application.

The message is put together with what you are looking at, with no obligation.

Frequently asked questions

Can steel hardness conversion tables be used for aluminium?

No. The ASTM E140 standard has a specific table for wrought aluminium products (Table 9); using the steel tables gives wrong values.

How hard is 6063-T5 aluminium?

About 60 HB (Brinell); in T6 temper it is around 73 HB.
